Putting Bias Aside: Players From Newly Promoted Teams Can Offer Value In Fpl

When it comes to Fantasy Premier League (FPL), it is easy to get caught up in the hype of the big teams and their star players. However, it is important to remember that there are often hidden gems to be found in newly promoted teams.

These players may not be as well-known as the stars of the big teams, but they can be just as effective in FPL.

For example, in the 2016/17 season, Jamie Vardy was the top scorer in FPL despite playing for Leicester City, who were newly promoted at the time. Teemu Pukki had his best season in FPL in 2021-22, scoring 22 goals and finishing third for the top points scoring forwards in the game. He was the only Norwich player to score over 100 points that season. Another great example is Ivan Toney who had a great season in 2021/22 , scoring 20 goals for Brentford. He was the seventh-highest scoring forward in the game.

So, why are players from newly promoted teams overlooked in FPL? There are a few reasons.

  • First, these teams are often not as well-scouted as the big teams. This means that it can be difficult to know which players are worth investing in.

  • Second, these teams are often not as attacking as the big teams. This means that their players may not score as many goals or get as many assists.

However, there are also a few reasons why players from newly promoted teams and mid table clubs can be great value in FPL.

  • They want to prove themselves at the highest level or just want to survive relegation.

  • They have a lot of young, hungry players who are looking to make a name for themselves.

  • They are cheap 😆, and as they don’t have a high amount of games the rotation risk is low.

This season the newly promoted team Luton Town have a double gameweek in GW7, they will travel to face Everton and after that they will catch up with their postponed fixture against Burnley.

Carlton Morris is a £5.5m forward who could be a great value option for FPL managers this season. He scored 20 goals in the Championship last season and is a regular starter. He is also a good penalty taker, which could help him to get points and even bonus. With the double gameweek confirmed the potential is there to surprise everyone and be a great differential.

So, if you are looking to get ahead in your FPL league, don't underestimate the players from newly promoted teams, they could make a difference in your team and help you gain rank and remember, never rule out a player.
